Nose

Complex and powerful with gobs of oak and spice. Spice is complex with cinnamon, cumin and coriander. Has the oily, lightly bitter and smoky smell of very dark roast coffee beans which I’m really digging. Sandalwood and traces of marachino cherry. It’s excellent.

Palate

Like the nose it has a rich oakiness and complex spiciness. The Lightly bitter and smoky dark coffee bean notes show up again. Toasted oak and sandalwood with a sizable amount of tannins. Very dark chocolate. Not really fruit and quite dry. Full bodied with a velvety but tannic feel . Again complex and excellent.

Finish

Long and dry with oak and spice.

Rating: 8

Overall

An excellent armagnac. My first encounter with Le Freche but it really sets the bar. Leans into oak and spice but is very complex.
