IYI Banana Brandy

About the Producer

The IYI line of brandies was put out by the Bulgari Distillery near Boston. I say was because it looks like the distillery is no longer in operation but bottles can still be found in the region if you look hard enough. Unfortunately very few details exist online but I can confirm that they made Strawberry, banana and blueberry brandies as well as a grappa and some aged brandies.

Details

  • 40% abv
  • Unaged
  • Fermented and distilled 100% from bananas.
  • Got for $20 per 375ml
  • not stated but likely has a large amount of sugar added.

Nose

Bananas are there but very light. Trace amounts of vanilla. Very sweet. Smells are good but just super light.

Palate

Overripe bananas with some vanilla and bitterness. Very sweet and sweetness pulls it out of balance. Just very little there to escape the sweetness. Medium bodied with a prickly and syrupy texture.

Finish

Short. Very sugar with a non-descript simple syrup sweetness.

Rating: 4

Overall

My least favorite of the IYI brandies I’ve tried. The banana is just so light and some bitterness that doesn’t help. Get the strawberry brandy and leave this.
