Calvados Morin Hors D’age 15yr

About the Producer

Calvados Morin founded as a negocient in 1889 and moved into it’s current location, the site of an older distillery, in 1945. It’s unclear to me if they do distilling on that site or rely solely on aging and blending purchased spirits.

Details

  • Made from a mixture of apples and pears.
  • 42% abv
  • 15 years in french oak.
  • Single distilled to 70% abv

Nose

Bittersweet cider apples. Oak spice and cinnamon. Medium intensity. Dry. Pleasant aroma. Not very complex but a solid Calvados.

Palate

More bitter sweet and tannic apples mixed with a small amount of pear juice. Polished oak is prominent some chalky taste I sometimes get with french oak aged brandies. Medium bodied and dry with medium flavor intensity. Very tasty but not very complex

Finish

Medium with dry polished oak.

Rating: 6

Overall

A tasty Calvados that’s fairly oak forward but still has a fair amount of fruit too. Reminds me a lot of Lairds 12 year for better or worse but at ½ the price.
