Artez Folle Blanche Napoleon Armagnac

About the producer:

Artez is a small Armagnac producer in the western part of the Bas-Armagnac region. This distillate was single distilled via a small column still like all Armagnacs and is aged for 10+ yrs in Monlezun black oak.

This Armagnac is 100% made from folle blanche grapes; these grapes used to make up the majority of the distillate for Armagnac and Cognac before the great phylloxera outbreak in 1850s-1870s that devistated brandy production. Nowadays the dominate grape in these regions and the respective brandies is Ugni blanc but Baco blanc, Folle blanche’s genetic decendant, is used in Armagnacs as well. Supposedly Folle blanche produces highly acitic base wines.
