Bar Agricole California Brandy

About the Producer

This brandy was special blend from Marian Farms distillery in Fresno, CA for Bar Agricole an eclectic seller of spirits and formerly a cocktail bar out of San Francisco. Marian Farms is certified biodynamic and organic farm and distillery. Truth be told, I don’t really know what biodynamic means but hopefully it produces good grapes for brandy. In addition to this blend I’ll also be reviewing today a single cask from them picked by K&L at a monstrous 80% abv.

Details

  • Biodynamic and organic
  • Blend of 15, 12 and 10 year old brandies
  • Distilled in a Carl pot still.
  • 46% abv.
  • Got for $65.

Nose

Quite fruity with notes of white grapes, guava, bananas and lemon zest. Decent but gentle oak. Traces of creme brulee. Sweet and medium intensity. A very good nose.

Palate

Good amount of lemon at first which transforms into overripe banana and guava. More gentle sweet oak. Quite sweet, medium bodied and a bit delicate but not too much. It’s both fruity and distillate driven. Feels like a summer drink. Texture is smooth and a bit syrupy.

Finish

Medium and sweet with lemon

Rating: 6

Overall

A very good brandy. Almost a 7 but it’s a bit too fruit driven to be well balanced; needs a bit more oak to get perfect balance. Either way if you come across this I recommend getting it. It’s a great value for the price.
