About the Producer
Masion Ferrand company was founded by Alexandre Gabriel in 1989 in the cognac region of France. Their most popular products are the Planteray line of rums but their original products are the Ferrand lines of Cognacs typically made from 100% Grand Champagne cognacs. The Renegade line is their line of experimental brandies, this bottle having been aged in Jamaican rum casks. Because of this it’s not a true cognac but “Eau De Vie De Vin”

Nose
The rum barrels have really done their work here. Plenty of overripe bananas and traces of diesel fuel. White grape jelly. Fairly sweet. Traces of caramel and wood spice. Leans slightly more towards cognac than rum flavors but I’m surprised how much the rum finish influences the product.
Palate
Some type of tropical fruit I can’t place, guava maybe? Other than that the notes are similar to the nose with overripe fruits, white grape jelly, caramel and oak. About 60% cognac flavors and 40% rum flavors. Doesn’t balance entirely but it’s still pretty good. Medium bodied and full flavored with a smooth and oily texture.
Finish
Long and sweet with molasses and spice.
