IYI Strawberry Brandy

About the Producer

The IYI line of brandies was put out by the Bulgari Distillery near Boston. I say was because it looks like the distillery is no longer in operation but bottles can still be found in the region if you look hard enough. Unfortunately very few details exist online but I can confirm that they made Strawberry, banana and blueberry brandies as well as a grappa and some aged brandies.

Details

  • 40% abv
  • Unaged
  • Fermented and distilled 100% from strawberries.
  • Got for $24 per 375ml
  • not stated but likely has a large amount of sugar added.

Nose

Very sweet strawberry juice. Very pleasant aroma with a crispness, almost a tartness to it. The strawberry is a bit lighter than the heavy sweetness taking away from the balance but overall it’s quite appealing.

Palate

Sugared strawberries. Does capture the fruit essence well; more like the juice than the flesh. Very sweet with a full body and texture like maple syrup. Sugar is on the boarder of throwing it out of balance but doesn’t go far enough to cover up the strawberry. Very sugary but very tasty.

Finish

Short to medium. Very sweet strawberry.

Rating: 6

Overall: My favorite that I’ve tried from the distilleries and worth a try as long as you are prepared for the fact that there is a high sugar content here. The strawberry comes through clearly and is just tasty and I’d recommend picking it up if you come across it. Unfortunately as you’ll see in some upcoming reviews not every bottle is to the same high standard.
