Edencio Mango Brandy

About the Producer

Edenico is a collaboration between maestro destiladors Rommel and Alex Krassel and Arnaud Fressonnet with the goal of producing Oaxacan eau-de0vies that began in 2016. The distillery is located in the Sierra Norte region of Oaxaca and sources all their fruit from a 50km radius of the distillery. They produce an interesting variety of brandies that you don’t see often in the states like plantain, guava and the brandy I’ve reviewing today, mango.

Details

  • Lot # EM0124
  • Made from Creole and Petacon mangoes from Cuicatlan, Oaxaca
  • Bottle says distilled from plantains so likely plantain distillate with mangoes macerated.
  • Double distilled in alembic stills.
  • Aged in glass for 1 yr.
  • 42% abv.

Nose

Light and slightly pungent. Mango is there but it’s light. Small amount of bananas. Small amount of bananas. Very dry and crisp. Good but quite light.

Palate

Lightly flavored, more so than many 40% brandies. Some pungency. Fruitiness is ther but more bananas or plantains than mangoes. Maybe 70% plantains and 30% mangoes. Light creaminess. Light bodied. Bone dry. Just very light and a bit off kilter with the pungency.

Finish

Short but here the mangoes show up. Bone dry.

Rating: 4

Overall

Interesting flavors but it’s just a bit too light and a bit out of whack with the pungency. I wonder if the lightness comes from the fact that it’s really distilled from plantains. Maybe they didn’t macerate with enough fruit or something. Either way I’d like to try the brand again even though this wasn’t a hit. Maybe try one that’s actually distilled form the fruit.
