Finger Lakes Distilling Riesling Grappa

About the Producer

Finger Lakes Distilling as a NY farm distillery located in the, surprise surprise, Finger Lakes region of New York. The distillery first started production in 2008 shortly and have been producing a whole range of spirits. Their major claim to fame are their McKenzie line of whiskeys that go into the barrel at a very low entry proof, 100 proof vs the standard 125.

In addition to the their whiskeys they have a whole line of brandies including a grape, pear, apple and this grappa. I’ve previously enjoyed so of their products so I was excited to see how this turns out.

Details

  • Fermented and distilled from Riesling grapes pomace from the Finger Lakes region of NYS.
  • Unaged.

Nose

White grape juice, citrus and a pleasant butteriness. Some earthiness and traces of anise. Tart and dry with a good intensity. A very good nose with some intensity.

Palate

All of the notes carry over from the nose just in different proportions. A good amount of tart and sweet white grape juice, earthiness and citrus. Again an excellent butteriness and traces of anise. Medium sweet, sweeter than the nose. Full flavored and medium bodied. Has a refreshing and effervescent character and is tasty and complex.

Finish

Medium. Sweet, fruity and earthy.

Rating: 6
