About the producer:
This plum brandy comes from the producer Maison Trimbach from Ribeauville from the Alsace region of France right near the boarder with Germany. Trimbach is a well known winery that’s known for it’s Riesling and other white wines. Not much of a wine person myself but they have a whole range of eau-de-vie including cherry, raspberry, pear, and plum brandies for reasonable prices; $21 for a 375ml bottle by me. I’ve had a good experience with their cherry and raspberry brandies in the past so today I’m reviewing their plum brandy.
Details
• Distilled 100% Mirabelle plums.
• From Alsace region
• 45% abv.
• Not oak aged. Unknow if aged in stainless steel.
Nose
Wow, very exciting. Fresh plums. Sweet. High intensity and refreshing. Very good.
Palate
Exact opposite of the nose. Very flat and weak; almost flavorless despite the decent abv. The intensity and vibrancy don’t carry over from the nose. Plums of course; not much else. Light body and a hair astringent.
Finish
Very short and flat.

Overall
Disappointing. The nose was so good but the palate and finish really let me down. Just kind of flat. Like I said at the beginning, I have the cherry and raspberry brandies from Trimbach and this is easily the worst of the 3. Not bad but not worth buying. Will hopefully review one of the other Trimbach edv in the near future.
